WEEK OF WELCOME FALL 2024
WHAT IS WOW?
Week of Welcome (WOW) is the official welcome to the new students in CAPERS family. It features an array of events organized by CBU and CBU Students’ Union in May, September and January.
It is a wonderful opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with campus life, academic resources, local businesses, meet new students and leaders/representative from different departments. Scroll down to view WOW events planned by CBU Students’ Union.

12:00pm-6:00pm: Grocery shuttle from CBU Residence Parking Lot to Walmart and Dollarama.

2:00pm-5:00pm: Games Day with VR EXPERIENCE @The Pit Lounge, Games Room and The Pit Courtyard

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Registration is FREE but REQUIRED due to limited seats. We may accept walk-ins entry based on seat availability.
Doors will open 30 minutes before the event starts. If you arrive after the event has begun, entry may be denied if the venue is full.
Registration will close on September 2nd at 12 PM or once the tickets are fully booked based on venue capacity, whichever comes first.
Swags are for new CBU STUDENTS only.
No registration is needed for events like the swag bag giveaway on move-in day or games day. The events are for NEW CBU STUDENTS.

Cooking on a Budget
Join us on Thursday, March 28th from 2:45pm - 3:30pm for Cooking on a Budget in the Levert Suite (Side A).
A qualified chef will instruct students on how they can replicate a meal at home, providing multiple meals for themselves. Following the completion of the class, students will receive the grocery items at no charge to complete the process at their own residence (students may be given a grocery pick-up date following the workshop).
This cooking class is FREE for all students.

CBU Students' Union Multicultural Celebration - Cultural Talent Show
Join us in commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with a celebration of diversity. Our Cultural Talent Show promises an evening where diverse cultures shine, taking center stage to showcase the richness of our global heritage. Doors open at 5:30 PM, inviting you to immerse yourself in a world of vibrant performances and heartfelt expressions. The show begins promptly at 6:00 PM, captivating audiences until 9:00 PM, with a culturally diverse fashion show during intermission.
Let's come together to celebrate unity in diversity and embrace the beauty of our shared humanity.
Women's Support Group
Join us on Tuesday, March 19th from 11:45am - 12:45pm in the Women’s Centre for a Women’s Support Group with the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre.
Two Spirit Talking Circle
Join us on Thursday, March 14th in the Dingwall Boardroom from 11:30am - 2:30pm for a Two Spirit Talking Circle presented by the Pride and Ally Centre and the Ekkian Indigenous Centre!
Students are invited to learn more about what it means to identify as two spirit from two spirit individuals themselves. Students can come and go as needed and a light lunch will be provided.
Arts and Crafts
Get creative and join us at the Pride and Ally Centre for Arts and Crafts on Wednesday, March 13th from 11:30am - 1:00pm.
This event is free to attend.
Queer Social/Trivia
Test your knowledge at Queer 101/Trivia taking place on Tuesday, March 12th from 7:00pm - 10:00pm in The Pit!
This is a wet event. Government ID is required.
Pride Week
Pride Week is taking place from March 11th - 14th on campus! Don’t miss out on the great events we have planned such as Pottery Painting, Queer Social/Trivia, Arts and Crafts and a Two Spirit Talking Circle presented by the Pride and Ally Centre!

Pottery Painting
Join us in the Dingwall Boardroom in the Students’ Union Building on Monday, March 11th from 11:30am - 3:00pm for Pottery Painting!
Sign up is required for this event and students can paint a free piece of pottery from Fired Creations!
Women's Support Group
Join us in the Women’s Centre on Thursday, March 7th from 11:45am - 12:45pm for a Women’s Support Group.
This event is free to attend and no registration is required.
Women's Hangout
Join us for a Women’s Hangout presented by the Students’ Union Women’s Centre and the Nursing Society!
Taking place in The Pit on March 6th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, the Women’s Hangout will include bracelet making and live entertainment!
No sign up is required and this event is free to attend.
Virtual Paint Night
Join us online for Virtual Paint Night presented by the Students’ Union Women’s Centre! This event is taking place on Tuesday, March 5th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Microsoft Teams.

Spots are limited and painting supplies will be provided free of charge.
Movie Night
Come join us in The Pit on Monday, March 4th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm for a movie night!
This event is free to attend and fee mocktails and pizza will be served.
Yoga
Join us for Yoga on Friday, march 1st in the Yvonne Levert Suite from 11:40am - 12:40pm.
This yoga session will be instructed by Tejaswini and is free for students to attend.
Watercolor Painting Workshop
Get creative with us at the Watercolor Painting Workshop presented by the Ekkian Indigenous Centre!
This event is taking place on Friday, March 1st from 10:00am - 12:00pm in the Executive Boardroom located in the Student’s Union Building.

Waves of Change: Bystander Intervention Training
Join us one Thursday, February 29th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in the Dingwall Boardroom for Waves of Change: Bystander Intervention Training.
Waves of Change is a peer-facilitated, evidence-based approach designed specifically for Nova Scotia post-secondary institutions that teaches participants about consent and bystander intervention skills.
This event is free to attend and no registration is required. Seats are limited and the first 15 students to arrive will receive a seat and must be on time.
Snacks will be provided for this event and all participants will receive a certificate upon completion.
Snack Giveaway
Stop by the Students’ Union Wall in the Cafeteria on Thursday, February 29th at 11:30am to grab a free healthy snack while supplies last!
Grocery Bingo
Come play Grocery Bingo on Wednesday, February 28th at 6:00pm in The Pit!
All students who play have the chance to win a FREE bag of groceries!

Health Fair
Visit The Pit on Wednesday, February 28th from 11:00am - 2:00pm for the 2024 Health Fair!
Students have the chance to win a Fitbit by completing their Health fair Passport at the event!
Pottery Paint Night
Join us on Tuesday, February 27th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm for Pottery Painting Night at Fired Creations!
Students can paint pottery for free up to $30. Any additional fees are required to be paid by the student.

Join us on Monday, February 26th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in The Pit Lounge to put your music knowledge to the ultimate test!
Name That Tune is a Capers Helping Capers Fundraiser event where teams can play with up to six (6) people! $5 per person

Healthy Living Week
Healthy Living Week is taking place on campus beginning Monday, February 26th and runs until Friday, March 1st!
Various events and activities will take place throughout the week such as Pottery Painting Night, the 2024 Health Fair, Yoga, and much more!
